What is GOBLIN 2?

GOBLIN 2 is a development card designed to be autonomous from the “Internet of Things", it has a module to control the charge of a Li-Po battery of 3.7V to 4.2V, which it can charge through a solar cell or a Micro-USB.
GOBLIN 2 is compatible with Arduino and ATMEL Studio, versatile in connectivity and ready for remote communication.

It also has a micro-controller ATMEGA328P, 5 analogue ports and 10 digital ones, which only 5 work as a PWM, it also integrates connectivity for each RS-485 protocol and voltage outputs of 24V, 5V and 3.3V that are ideal for industrial sensors or sensors with analog/digital signal.

Its design for the “Internet of Things” is thanks to the SIM5320A that incorporates a Dual-BAND link UMTS/HSDPA TO 850/1900MHz and Quad-Band GSM/GPRS/ EDGE to 850/900/1800/1900mhz and so it can have the connectivity with web servers through any cellular web.

As the module SIM5320A is added, it is available in its outputs to be connected to a keyboard, microphone/speakers and USB to explode the cellular web, to the reach of your needs and innovations.

What is the function of GOBLIN 2?

It works to measure parameters in distance such as temperature, humidity, position, and many others, depending on the needs of the project. It works in isolated places where the electric energy is a limitation for the implementation of electronic systems.

Adds all the necessary for the remote monitoring, talking it to a web server and later all the necessary information to the web platform to monitor the variable on real time.

Applications:

  • Monitoring of industrial sensors with an RS-485 protocol.
  • Telemetry.
  • Vehicle monitoring.
  • GPS systems.
  • Weather monitoring.
  • Alarm system.
  • Automation applications.
  • SMS Applications, calls.
  • Monitoring of medic variables.
  • Remotes controls.
  • And many others.```

Addition of Hardware

ATMEL328P Microcontroller

GOBLIN 2 offers the enhancement of the ATMEL328P, to start developing in an easier way any internet project. You have the option to use ARDUINO UNO with an Arduino interface and being able to exploit it to the needs of the project.

It counts with a working speed of 16MHz, a 1024B EEPROM, 32KB ash, inlets and outlets: 10 digital (5 may work as PWM), 6 analogical and a LED indicator in the PIN 13.

MICRO-USB Communication

GOBLIN 2 integrates SiliconLabs’s CP2102 UART-USB, with the intention of improving the speed and security of the microcontroller and the SIM5320A through the PC, using Windows or MAC-OS.

This circuit helps to program the microcontroller Atmel 328P, through any PC with any Arduino or with Atmel studio’s IDE, for the development of projects. It also helps having direct communication with the SIM5320A from the PC for a SIMCOM “AT+” command interchange, through a generic serial monitor or an Arduino’s one. It counts with LED indicators to see the data interchange between the PC and GOBLIN 2.

Battery Management

The battery charging circuit of the Goblin 2 is designed to proportionate continuous Voltage of 4.2V at 1Amp, which can be able to charge a 3.7V Li-Po battery.

It counts with two battery status LED indicators: “Standby” blue LED means that battery is charged at more than 95%; “Charger” red LED means that the battery is in charging mode and that it is below 95% charging capacity.

It is ideal to work with voltage coming from the USB, and a solar cell of 5V higher than 200mA. It incorporates a PHR-2 connector compatible with Li-Po batteries for a fast and safe connection. It’s over voltage protection will help to extend the lifetime of the battery, isolating it when reaching voltages higher than 4.3V

SIM5320A

This module is designed to be able to work with a Quadband cellular GSM network (GPRS-EDGE) UMTS (HSDPA) at 850/900/1800/1900 Mhz for sending data to a web platform to be able to monitor variables remotely from the GOBLIN 2; it counts with Jack SMD U.F.L. connectors to connect with GPS and Network GSM antennas, a LED indicator to observe the condition of the cellular network, and a manual power button.

Includes inlets/outlets to connect perifericals like keyboards, microphones, speakers, and thus exploit better the cellular network. Simcom Wireless Solution is a leading supplier in M2M solutions, with more than a decade in specialized experience, continually developing new RF modules for cellular network.

All its products are trustworthy and are backed with a wide documentation and AT command manuals and development tools.

RS-485 Protocol

It is a communication protocol used in most of the industrial sensors. It can hold up 32 nodes which means that 32 connected sensors to only one bus that work from 2 threads (A Data(+), B Data(-)), it can reach a speed up to 10Mbps to 12 meters and 100Kbps to 1.200 meter (maximum distance). This protocol is included in the Goblin 2 to have an exchange of information with industrial sensors and then have to monitor the variables that are necessaries on the industry or innovation projects. It can be seen the communication status. (Transmit-receive) between Goblin 2 and the industrial sensor through LED’s indicators.

Output voltajes 3.3V, 5V, 24V

GOBLIN 2 is able to proportionate output voltages of 3.3V to 300mA, 5V a 3Amp y 24V a 500mA from a Li-Po battery of 3.7v or from the MicroUSB, this is because of the integration circuit boosters with an efficiency up to the 90%. Offering the voltage of 24V to industrial sensors, 5v to charges like servomotors or related sensors with that kind of supply voltage and 3.3v for communication devices such a RF, Wi-Fi, sensors and others.
